From Austin, take TX-183 North towards Lometa for approximately 55 miles. Slight left onto US-190 and continue for 20 miles to San Saba. Harry's is located at the intersection of Hwy 190 (Wallace St) & TX 16.

~ Directions from the North (Dallas/Ft.Worth/Waco)~

From Waco, head west on Hwy 84 for approximately 80 miles. At Goldwaite, head south on Hwy 16 for 21 miles to San Saba. Harry's is located at the intersection of TX 16 & Hwy 190 (Wallace St).

Founded in 1939, Harry’s is a western wear and boot store located in historic San Saba, Texas. The buildings and business were recently purchased by Ken Jordan & Clay Nettleship and are currently undergoing an extensive restoration process.

How it all began...

Our story began in 1907 when J. W. McConnell built two buildings at 403 E. Wallace and 405 E. Wallace. One housed McConnell’s grocery store while T.E. Gaines and E.E. Fagg opened the first men’s clothing store in 1917 in the other building. This arrangement remained until 1939 when Ike Shapiro purchased the two buildings and opened what is known today as Harry’s. Shapiro believed in extensive inventories, quality merchandise offered at competitive prices and authentic personal service. These qualities helped cultivate long lasting relationships with customers throughout the years. In 1941, his son Harry joined the business and in 1970, Harry purchased the circa 1907 building at 401 E. Wallace located at the corner of Highway 16 and Highway 190. The Corner Drug Store had occupied this space for 60 plus years serving as the morning coffee spot for the men in town throughout the 40’s & 50’s.

Together, Ike and Harry Shapiro grew Harry’s into a strong Texas legacy offering the finest western wear and a large selection of boots. Harry served as store owner and manager after his father’s death in 1951. In May 1982 Harry past away leaving his family to run the business until 1986 when two former employees, Lorena Terry and David Parker, bought the store from the Shapiro family. Harry’s then expanded again in 1998 when it purchased 407 E. Wallace, which was built in 1885 and served as San Saba Hardware for many years. The hardware store was a gathering place of the local men and a history of San Saba’s weather was recorded on a back wall. During renovations, besides retaining the weather records and the original tin ceiling, they discovered and opened an archway between the hardware store and Harry’s. It had been filled with rocks and plastered over. The archway now allows access between the two buildings.

Although the four turn-of-the-century buildings have had many owners and many renovations, their character remains strong and beautiful to tell their story today. And now the torch is passed to Ken Jordan and Clay Nettleship to maintain and grow this Texas legacy known as Harry’s. In February 2008, the two businessmen purchased the buildings and business and immediately began renovations. Phase One which is the corner building at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 190 that will house their boot and hat selections is now complete. The restoration included removing plaster from the outside and inside walls to reveal the beautiful native rock, refurbishing the original doors and floor and adding new shelves & western accents. Ken and Clay have other future plans for this landmark establishment. Check in often to see how they are progressing.
